Skin infection and rash symptoms

Your skin is in constant contact with the outside world, which means it is constantly prone to rashes, infections and irritation. Common symptoms of skin problems can include:

  • Blisters, bumps, or boils
  • Itchiness, redness, or scales
  • Pain and irritation
  • Muscle aches and fever

Any of these can be a sign of a treatable skin problem or even an unexpected underlying condition. Don’t wait to see a provider to help uncover the underlying cause and get the treatment you need.

Causes of skin infection and rash

There are many different causes of skin infections and rashes, including:

  • Acne
  • Allergies
  • Autoimmune disease
  • Fungal, viral or bacterial infection
  • Heat, sunburns and mild burns
  • Irritation due to friction
  • Parasites and bug bites
  • Pregnancy
  • Reactions to medications, personal care products or detergents, or vaccines

The best way to figure out the cause of your skin infection or rash is to have it evaluated by a healthcare provider, especially if it’s not clearing up on its own within 2-3 days.
